I first heard about the Hindu God Ganesh in Italy when I was training to obtain my Yoga Alliance Yoga Teacher Certificate. Our teacher had a medium-sized Ganesh statue in her yoga studio, and she asked us to make a symbolic offering to Ganesh. Our teacher told us that Ganesh might help us on our way to becoming Yoga teachers. Many of my classmates made creative offerings to Ganesh. I remember that one girl made a beautiful drawing of Ganesh and offered that drawing. I later heard that she relocated to a beautiful and exotic country to teach Yoga at a beautiful resort. If I’m not wrong, I offered candies to Ganesh…
I always liked the statue of Ganesh, and in fact, I got myself this beautiful incense burner and placed it in my studio.
The thing is, I always associated Ganesh with good luck and prosperity…until this morning. When I did Day 10 of 40 Days of Transformation Meditation offered by Davidji on Insight Timer this morning, I was reminded that Ganesh is mainly revered as the remover of obstacles! I mean, Ganesh may also bring good luck and prosperity, who knows, but his main area of specialty is removing obstacles:)
And that brings us to the topic of this blog post today: removing obstacles for others. Most of the time, it’s very easy to get sucked into our troubles. More than seven billion people just like us inhabit the planet earth today. And a lot of people are going through several difficulties daily. What kind of world would we live in if each one of that seven billion people did one act of kindness to remove an obstacle in another person’s life? Imagine everyone helping each other remove obstacles in their lives…seven billion of obstacle removal a day! Okay, maybe less than seven billion if we exclude babies under the age of five years old:) The obstacles that we can remove can be as small as opening the door to someone else or as big as buying a dinner/medicine or paying for hospital bills/school expenses for someone else.
So, how will you help people around you today? What obstacles will you remove for people you love and people you do not even know?
To finish this post, I would like to add a few words about the meditation gurus I follow. I know I’ve been mentioning meditation a lot in my posts recently. Some of you may know that I’ve been going through a big life event, kind of trauma, recently. And practicing meditation has been one of the cornerstones of my recovery process. I’m mainly using the Insight Timer app for my meditations, and that’s where I discovered Davidji‘s teachings. First, I’ve finished his 30-Day Journey to Rebirth course on Insight Timer and went through a great transformation in my life. Now I’m doing his The 40 Days of Transformation Course for the second time. You can find further information about his teachings and his events on his website.
You can find other amazing teachers on Insight Timer as well. Naomi Goodlet is also on Insight Timer, and she is my go-to teacher for my daily affirmations. Carmen Ng is another favorite teacher of mine, and I strongly recommend her course on balancing Chakras as well as her meditation on removing trauma.
