Creativity Corner: Genie in a Bottle

Time for another activity you can play with your kids or even adults 🙂 This activity, just like other creative activities, will help you push the limits of your imagination a little bit. I believe the origins of this activity are found in the book What Color is Your Parachute, written by Richard Bolles. You can use this exercise for fun or establish a roadmap for what you want to learn or achieve next in your life.

Imagine there is a magic lamp that grants three wishes. Your first wish will allow you to choose an inspiring person from whom you’d like to learn. With your second wish, you can choose a time and place in the world that you’d like to learn more from your inspiring person. Your last wish will give you the chance to choose any subject that you’d like to learn from your person of choice in that time and place. You can be as creative as you like about the time and place you’d like to pick. You can choose a date and place in the future if you wish, to see what your person of choice would think about it.

If it were me, I think I would pick Nicola Tesla. I’ve always been fascinated by his inventions and his creative ways of thinking. I think I would choose a future date such as 2050 and ask Tesla what he thinks about artificial intelligence.

Now it’s your turn! 🙂
