I’ve mentioned a couple of times in my previous posts that one of my favorite fitness gurus is Kayla Itsines. Kayla is from sunny Australia, and she is the co-founder of the Sweat App. I was checking her Instagram profile today and noticed that she has a post about rest days. Kayla says, “You actually NEED at least one rest day as part of your weekly schedule in order to MAKE progress,” because your muscles need time and space to recover. I think Kayla makes a great point:)
And what Kayla suggests can easily be applied to your well-being when you feel overwhelmed. Sometimes you may feel like the entire weight of the world is on your shoulders. You may feel like you need to do this and that, catch up with this and that. And you may feel like you are running after things like a headless chicken. Well, when you feel overwhelmed, just realize that you do not have to save the world every day. Your soul, your brain, and your body are entitled to calm down. And you are entitled to just lay down and look at the ceiling every once in a while. Don’t worry, the world will still be spinning around, and not a lot of people will even realize that you are having a little break.
We all need to contribute to society with our unique skills. But we cannot efficiently contribute if we are burned out. You need to take care of your own self first in order to be able to take care of others. You need to find happiness inside of you first in order to be able to make the people around you happy. You are important.
So, definitely take it easy when you need to. And remember, wherever you are in your life at this moment, you are doing a great job. Be proud of yourself.
