2020: How Did it Change You?

I am blessed with having a lot of wonderful people in my life. I spent the majority of 2020 with M by my side and, for that, I’m really grateful. M has always been the leading influencer in my life. But in the meantime, I also kept in touch with my family, my sister, my cousin, my high school friends, and with my former colleagues regularly. All these people are located in different countries around the world, and each one of them is pursuing a totally different path with their own goals and desires. People move on, and such is life.

A week ago, one of my high school friends offered to organize an online activity for a couple of us. The event is scheduled for the 3rd of January. A lot of old friends from around the world will join; I’m really looking forward to it. We will play trivia, and the organizer asked us to write six things that changed in us in 2020. On Sunday, we will try to guess which statement belongs to whom.

At first, I thought I did not have much to share because I feel like nothing really happened in 2020. But, at the same time, this thought seemed a bit awkward. Surely something must have happened, it has been a year! Yes, maybe I could not travel to foreign countries, or I could not dress up to meet my friends etc. But life isn’t just about these activities, is it? And, in fact, when I forced myself further to think about how 2020 changed my life, I managed to come up with five things. I won’t be writing these down here because one of my friends may be reading it, and this may give them an advantage on Sunday’s trivia:) I know 2020 hasn’t been the most action-packed year, but before we send it away with woes, I guess we can pay our respects to 2020 by thinking about how it changed us. Below I listed a few questions that may help you realize that you’ve done a great job in 2020:

1. Did you forgive in 2020?

Did you forgive yourself, your parents, or that prick who did you wrong back in 2000? If you did, well done to you! By forgiving, you’ve lessened the unnecessary garbage you brought into 2021. Keep up the good work!

2. Did you read in 2020?

2020 presented a great opportunity to catch up with reading. Whatever you read in 2020 will definitely help you in the next years to come. Well done!

3. Did you exercise in 2020?

The gyms may have stayed closed for most of 2020, but outdoors was always available. If you took regular walks outside, well done. If you supported online instructors, well done to you too!

4. Did you learn a new skill in 2020?

I’ve seen numerous times on the news that a lot of people used their imagination to the maximum during the lockdowns. Big or small, I’m pretty sure you added some new skills to your skillset too. Be proud of yourself!

5. Did you reflect on the importance of the present moment in 2020?

2020 kind of made it clearer for us that no one will leave this world… alive…This thought should help us leave behind running after to be right all the time and hold onto our loved ones with more compassion and understanding.

No matter how you spent 2020, please be proud of all the things you’ve accomplished. Remember, you are doing a great job. Keep it up in 2021!
